Overview
A manufacturing facility experienced increasing vibration levels on a critical process pump which had previously undergone a recent overhaul. The equipment was essential to production and any unplanned failure would have resulted in significant downtime.
The Challenge
Maintenance personnel reported elevated vibration readings during routine monitoring. Initial inspections did not reveal any obvious mechanical damage, but vibration levels continued to increase during operation.
Investigation
Advanced Maintenance Solutions carried out detailed vibration analysis using high resolution spectrum analysis and time waveform measurements.
The investigation included:
- Machinery vibration analysis across multiple measurement points
- Review of vibration frequency patterns and harmonics
- Assessment of bearing condition and shaft alignment
- Evaluation of structural influences on vibration behaviour
Findings
Analysis identified a vibration signature consistent with shaft misalignment combined with early stage bearing distress.
Outcome
Corrective laser shaft alignment was carried out and the affected bearing was replaced during a planned maintenance window.

Following corrective action:
- Vibration levels were significantly reduced
- Equipment reliability was restored
- The risk of unplanned pump failure was eliminated
This investigation demonstrated the value of vibration analysis services within predictive maintenance programmes.
