Thermography Inspection
Overview
During a routine thermography inspection at a manufacturing site, Advanced Maintenance Solutions carried out thermal imaging of electrical distribution equipment.
The Challenge
Electrical switchgear was operating continuously under varying load conditions. The maintenance team required confirmation that no overheating connections or electrical faults were present.
Investigation
Infrared thermography inspections were performed on electrical panels, distribution boards and motor control centres while the equipment remained energised.
Thermal images were captured and analysed to identify abnormal temperature variations.
Findings
Thermal imaging identified a high resistance connection within a distribution panel. The connection was generating elevated temperatures compared with surrounding components.
Outcome
The connection was repaired during a planned shutdown before the fault developed into a serious electrical failure.
